Every year around 20 films premiere in the event from all around the world. The films compete against each other for the prestigious title of the Cannes Film festival.

Postpone of the event
This year 2021 the event will host its 74th edition of the film festival, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the organizers decided to postpone the schedule from the traditional month of May 11-22 to July 6-17. The delay was expected considering the impact of CoronaVirus very high in France. Considering the current situation, with more and more cases surging in France, it is clear that the authorities cannot risk the travel of people from different countries and gathering of a large crowd.

Cannes Festival in 2020
This is the second time the event has been affected due to a pandemic. The festival was canceled last year in 2020 due to the lockdown imposed by the government, to prevent the spread of CoronaVirus. Initially, the organizers have postponed the event but considering the situation getting worse, a nationwide lockdown has been imposed by the Government to prevent the virus leading to the cancellation of the event. The current vaccination drive going on might bring some hope of relief in the situation of the growing number of cases.
